Activate license window

The Activate license window installs a license key. It shows what a key will install before you activate it, and restores or removes a license. With a license or a running trial license, Prism has all its features; without one, Prism runs with limited features.

Opening it

Select Activate… in the License block of the Home page.
Select Help › Enter License… in the Control Panel or a Workspace window.

1	Current	The installed license and its status, such as Current: License · Valid until 15 Jan 2027 or Current: Trial license · Trial expires in 12 days. With no key installed it reads No license · No license key; with a key that does not validate, License key · Not valid or License key · Expired …. The tooltip names the license holder and explains the status. See License status texts.
2	More options (⋯)	Restores the previous license or removes the installed one. Shown when a license key is installed. See Restore or remove a license.
3	New license key	Paste the whole key you received from Statical. Spaces and line breaks are ignored, so a key that wraps across lines in an email still works.
4	Key preview	What the key will install, or why it cannot be installed. See Key preview.
5	stati-cal.com	Opens our website in your browser. Your company's license administrator finds the keys on MyPages.
6	Activate	Installs the key; `Enter` does the same. It reads Activate anyway when the key gives you less than you have, and stays disabled until a key that can be installed is pasted.
7	Cancel	Closes the window and leaves the installed license as it is. `Esc` does the same.

Activate a license key

Activate a key when you have bought a license, renewed one or received a trial license key by email.

Select Activate… on the Home page.
Paste the key into New license key. The preview shows what the key installs.
Select Activate, or Activate anyway if the preview warns of a step down.

The window closes, and an Activation dialog says “License activated.” or “Trial license activated.” The Home page shows the new license.

If the key cannot be saved or loaded, the window stays open and says why: “Couldn't save the license: …”, “Couldn't activate the license: …” or “The saved license key wasn't accepted.” Your installed license stays in place.

Key preview

Prism checks a key as soon as you paste it, before anything is saved. The preview shows what the key would install:

In green, for a key at least as good as your current one: Activates a license or Activates a trial license (Replaces it with … when a valid license is installed), then the license holder, such as Jane Doe · Contoso, and Valid until ….
In amber, for a step down, with the reasons: “It's a trial license.”, “It expires on …, earlier than your current license.” or “It's licensed to …, not ….” The button then reads Activate anyway, so you do not replace a better license by mistake.

A key that is already installed shows “This key is already installed.”, and Activate stays disabled.

Rejected keys

A key that cannot be installed is never saved, and your installed license stays in place. The window says why:

Couldn't check this key: …	Prism could not check the key; the reason follows. Try again, or contact us.

Restore or remove a license

Prism keeps the licenses you replace or remove, so you can undo a change. It offers the most recent one that can still be activated as the previous license. Beside a valid license, restoring and removing are in the ⋯ menu at the end of the Current row:

The confirmation before the previous license replaces a valid one.

2	Restore	Activates the previous license and closes the window. The installed license becomes the previous one, so this can be undone too.
3	Cancel	Keeps the installed license.

Remove the license?

The confirmation before the license is removed.

1	Message	“Prism runs with limited features until you activate a license key. You can restore this license from this window afterwards.”
2	Remove	Removes the installed license and closes the window. If it cannot be removed, the window says “Couldn't remove the license: …” with the reason.
3	Cancel	Keeps the license.

Without a valid license, the previous license shows as a card above New license key instead, since it is the likely next step:

License status texts

The status in the Current row, and in the License block of the Home page, is one of these. Its tooltip explains it and says what to do.

Status	Meaning
Unlicensed	No license key is installed, and Prism runs with limited features. The window's Current row reads No license · No license key. Activate a key or start a trial.
Trial expires today / tomorrow / in N days	A trial license is running, with all features.
Trial expired …	The trial has ended. Subscribe to Prism for AL to keep all features.
Invalid trial license	The installed trial license cannot be used; contact us.
Valid until …	The license is valid.
Up for renewal	The license expires within 32 days. The tooltip says how many days the key stays valid.
Expires today / tomorrow / in N days	The license expires within 16 days. The tooltip says how to renew it.
Expired …	The license has expired.
Not valid on this machine	The trial license works only on the computer it was requested from; contact us.
Invalid	The installed license cannot be used. The tooltip says why.
