Go to path and position
Two small windows of the Workspace window take you straight to a place: Go to Prism Path by Prism path, and Go to position by character position in the current object. Both are on the View menu, and Esc closes them.
Go to Prism Path
Opening it
- Choose View › Go to Prism Path….
- Press Ctrl+Shift+G.

| # | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Path | The Prism path to go to. |
| 2 | Ok | Goes to the path. Enabled once the text is a valid Prism path. |
| 3 | Cancel | Closes the window. |
When the path does not lead to anything in the store, the window stays open so you can correct it.
Go to a Prism path someone sent you
Use this when a colleague or an AI agent sends you a Prism path.
- Copy the path, for example
prism:Table/Customer/Field/Name. - In the workspace window of the same store, press Ctrl+Shift+G.
- Paste the path into Path and select Ok.
The Objects page opens the object and scrolls to the declaration.
Prism path syntax
A Prism path names an object or a declaration in it, such as a field, a procedure or a control. Get one with Copy Prism Path to Clipboard on the context menu of an object, an object index row, a declaration, an outline node or a row on the Dependencies tab; Prism then shows Copied to clipboard. AI agents use the same paths through the MCP server, and Prism for AL writes them the same way.
A path is prism: followed by steps of the form <Kind>/<name>, separated by
/. The first step is the object, named by its name, not its id:
| Path | Goes to |
|---|---|
prism:Table/Customer | Table Customer. |
prism:Table/Customer/Field/Name | The field Name of table Customer. |
prism:Table/Full%20Table/Procedure/CalculateTotals | The procedure CalculateTotals of table Full Table. A space in a name is written %20. |
- Names are percent-escaped, as in a web address.
- When siblings share a name, a qualifier after a tilde tells them apart, as in
Field~2. - Kinds can be written in any case.
- Object kinds: Codeunit, Table, Form, Page, Report, MenuSuite, Query, XmlPort, Dataport.
- Kinds inside an object: Variable, Parameter, Procedure, Event, Trigger, Field, Key, FieldGroup, Property, RequestPage, DataItem, Column, Control, Action, Area, Section, RequestForm, TableElement, TextElement, FieldElement, TextAttribute, FieldAttribute, Label, MenuNode.
Go to position
Go to position moves to a character position in the current object, counted from the start of the object in its file. Use it when a message or a tool reports a position rather than a line.
Opening it
- Choose View › Go to position….
- Press Ctrl+G.

| # | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Position | The character position, relative to the start of the object. It starts at 0. |
| 2 | Ok | Goes to the position. Enabled once you change the value. |
| 3 | Cancel | Closes the window. |
When the position is outside the object, the window stays open.
