Problem

Sometimes Statical Prism is falsely detected by anti-virus/anti-malware software.

We digitally sign our software with an authenticode digital signature to ensure our users can verify that they install the correct and approved software by checking the signature.

Cause

Anti-virus software use a variety of techniques and tactics to ensure malware does not end up on user machines:

• Signatures
• Heuristics
• Behaviour tracking
• Reputation, maturity and release date

Signatures can precisely identify known malware. The problem is other techniques that try to pro-actively identify unknown malware without knowing for sure. When benign software such as Statical Prism is reported as malicious this is known as false positive detection.

Some users have reported that Statical Prism have been falsely detected as malware by their chosen anti-virus software. Unfortunately there is a plethora of anti-virus software makers and some use tactics that are over-zealous.

Resolution

As an independent software vendor we attempt to solve the problem of false positives by proactively registering our software at a few anti-virus vendor sites; however, if Statical Prism is falsely detected on your machine you can do several things resolve the issue:

• Make an exception for Statical Prism in the anti-virus software; instructing it to trust our software.
• Report the incident and details to us via feedback@stati-cal.com.
• Report a false positive to your anti-virus vendor (see list of providers on wikipedia).
